COFFEE
PAINTINGS

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest with a deep appreciation for the organic beauty of natural things. Coffee, a pretty shrub with smooth, glossy leaves, cream-white flowers and clustered berries (Coffee Cherries) has a long and varied history. At one point, drinking coffee was actually banned in some countries and cultures.  Today, it has become a way to connect with one another, wherever we may be in the world.

I'm drawn to the process involved in coffee production. I envision the feel of rich earth that sparks growth; warm sun, sustaining rains and hard-working, weathered hands that pick, roast, package, ship and ultimately prepare the final product.  Because every coffee mixture has a distinct history in making it to my studio, each painting is then infused with a unique narrative.  I lean into the process that effortlessly connects my work to people and places I imagine having had a part in the stories I dream up as I create. Because they do.
